BILL NUMBER:S2682 TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the highway law, in relation to designating certain portions of the state highway system in the counties of Monroe and Tioga PURPOSE: This bill will help honor police officers killed in the line of duty by allowing for roadside memorial signs to be installed on state highways. SUMMARY PROVISIONS: Section 1 amends the highway law by adding a new section 344-d JUSTIFICATION: In many areas throughout the country, memorial signs are dedicated to honor fallen officers and their families at the location where they died. The state Department of Transportation has traditionally restricted signage on state roads to notices for drivers and other personnel such as law enforcement and snowplow drivers. This bill would change this tradition and would allow New York to begin to

The highway law is amended by adding a new section 344-d to read as follows: S 344-D. PORTION OF THE STATE HIGHWAY SYSTEM IN THE COUNTIES OF MONROE AND TIOGA TO BE MEMORIALIZED. CERTAIN PORTIONS OF THE STATE HIGHWAY SYSTEM IN THE COUNTIES OF MONROE AND TIOGA ARE MEMORIALIZED AS FOLLOWS WITH SIGNAGE: 1. AT STATE ROUTE THREE HUNDRED EIGHTY-THREE AT 21 CALEDONIA AVENUE IN THE VILLAGE OF SCOTTSVILLE, COUNTY OF MONROE THERE SHALL BE A MEMORIAL SIGN THAT READS "DEPUTY SIMON J. BERMINGHAM MEMORIAL SITE"; 2. AT STATE ROUTE SIXTY-FIVE, KNOWN AS CLOVER STREET, NEAR THE INTER- SECTION WITH HIGHLAND AVENUE, IN THE TOWN OF BRIGHTON, COUNTY OF MONROE THERE SHALL BE A MEMORIAL SIGN THAT READS "SPECIAL DEPUTY JOSEPH G. MUNZ MEMORIAL SITE"; 3. AT STATE ROUTE THREE HUNDRED EIGHTY-THREE NEAR THE SCOTTSVILLE VILLAGE LINE IN THE COUNTY OF MONROE THERE SHALL BE A MEMORIAL SIGN THAT READS "DEPUTY WILLIAM MARSHALL MEMORIAL SITE"; 4.
