BILL NUMBER: S6685 TITLE OF BILL : An act to authorize Mahasi Satipatthana Meditation Center to file an application for exemption from real property taxes for certain assessment rolls PURPOSE : To authorize the assessor of the county of Nassau to accept from the Mahasi Satipatthana Meditation Center applications for exemptions from real property taxes for the 2014-2015 assessment rolls with respect to certain property owned by this not-for-profit entity. SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS : Section one authorizes the assessor of the county of Nassau to accept from the Mahasi Satipatthana Meditation Center applications for exemptions from real property taxes for the 2014-2015 general assessment rolls with respect to the parcel owned by such not-for-profit entity at 34 Ashland Avenue, in the village of New Hyde Park, county of Nassau. If accepted, the applications shall be reviewed as if they had been received on or before the taxable status date established for such rolls.

MARTINS -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Local Government AN ACT to authorize Mahasi Satipatthana Meditation Center to file an application for exemption from real property taxes for certain assess- ment rolls THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Notwithstanding any other provision of law to the contrary, the assessor of the village of New Hyde Park is hereby authorized to accept from Mahasi Satipatthana Meditation Center, a not-for-profit corporation, an application for exemption from real property taxes pursuant to section 420-a of the real property tax law with respect to the 2014-2015 assessment rolls, for the parcel owned by such not-for- profit corporation which is located at 34 Ashland Avenue, village of New Hyde Park, county of Nassau, otherwise known as Nassau county tax map section 8, block 172, lot 1110. If accepted, the application shall be reviewed as if it had been received on or before the taxable status date established for such assessment rolls. If satisfied that such corporation would otherwise be entitled to such exemption if such corporation had filed an application for exemption by the appropriate taxable status date, the assessor upon approval of the New Hyde Park Board of Trustees, may grant exemption from all taxation with respect to the subject tax rolls due and owing by such not-for-pro- fit corporation on the effective date of this act and cancel taxes, fines, penalties, liens or interest remaining unpaid, and make appropri- ate correction of the subject assessment rolls.
