 AN  ACT  to  amend  the vehicle and traffic law, in relation to allowing
   "Safe-Teen-NY Driver" stickers on number plates of vehicles driven  by
   persons under the age of eighteen

   THE  PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM-
 BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
 
   Section 1. Section 507 of the vehicle and traffic law  is  amended  by
 adding a new subdivision 6 to read as follows:
   6.    DISPLAY  OF SAFE-TEEN-NY DRIVER STICKER. ANY PERSON WHO IS UNDER
 THE AGE OF EIGHTEEN AND HOLDS A  LEARNER'S  PERMIT,  LIMITED  CLASS  DJ,
 LIMITED  CLASS  MJ  LICENSE, CLASS DJ OR CLASS MJ LICENSE, MAY DISPLAY A
 SAFE-TEEN-NY DRIVER STICKER AFFIXED ON OR NEAR THE NUMBER PLATE OF  EACH
 VEHICLE  DRIVEN  BY SUCH PERSON. THE PARENTS AND LEGAL GUARDIANS OF SUCH
 PERSON MAY ALSO DISPLAY A SAFE-TEEN-NY DRIVER STICKER. THE STICKER SHALL
 BE YELLOW IN COLOR,  AND  BEAR  THE  WORDS  "SAFE-TEEN-NY  DRIVER".  THE
 DEPARTMENT  SHALL  DEVELOP  AND MAINTAIN SUCH STICKERS FOR ISSUANCE UPON
 REQUEST PURSUANT TO THIS SUBDIVISION.
   § 2. This act shall take effect on the one hundred eightieth day after
 it shall have become a law, provided  that  the  commissioner  of  motor
 vehicles  is  immediately  authorized  and directed to promulgate, amend
 and/or repeal any rules  and  regulations  necessary  to  implement  the
 provisions of this act on its effective date.
