Senate Resolution No. 1301

COMMENDING Captain William Allendorph upon the
occasion of his designation as recipient of a
Liberty Medal, the highest honor bestowed upon an
individual by the New York State Senate
WHEREAS, Members of the Armed Services from the State of New York,
who have served so valiantly and honorably in wars in which this
country's freedom was at stake, as well as in the preservation of peace
in peacetime, deserve a special salute from this Legislative Body; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Captain
William Allendorph upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of
a Liberty Medal, the highest honor bestowed upon an individual by the
New York State Senate; and
WHEREAS, The New York State Senate Liberty Medal was established by
Resolution and is awarded to individuals who have merited special
commendation for exceptional, heroic, or humanitarian acts on behalf of
their fellow New Yorkers; and
WHEREAS, William Allendorph proudly served his country as a member
of the United States Army during the Vietnam War from 1967 to 1971; and
WHEREAS, In Vietnam, this brave soldier was detailed to Quang Tin
Province in the 1 Corps Tactical Zone where he served as Mobile Advisory
Team Leader and was promoted to 1st Lieutenant in 1969; in this
capacity, he was instrumental in assisting the Vietnamese Regional and
Popular Forces in military operations against the enemy; and
WHEREAS, One of the most gratifying missions Lieutenant William
Allendorph commanded in Vietnam was the rescue of an imprisoned U.S.
Army Soldier, Specialist 4 Larry D. Aiken, who was the only imprisoned
soldier to be forcibly returned to friendly control during the war; and
WHEREAS, Following his tour in Vietnam, Lieutenant William
Allendorph was promoted to the esteemed position of Captain and assigned
to the John J. Kennedy Special Warfare School where he completed
training as a Special Forces Officer and received the Green Beret; and
WHEREAS, Captain William Allendorph was then assigned to the 7th
Special Forces Group, 1st Special Forces, as a B and C Team Leader; and
WHEREAS, For his heroic service, bravery in combat and outstanding
leadership abilities, Captain William Allendorph received many military
awards, honors and commendations, including 3 Bronze Stars; Army
Commendation Medal; Combat Infantry Badge; U.S. Army Parachutist Badge;
National Defense Service Medal; Vietnam Service Medal; Good Conduct
Medal; New York State Conspicuous Service Medal; and the Republic of
Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Bronze Star; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, Captain William Allendorph was inducted into
the New York State Senate Veterans' Hall of Fame during a public
ceremony held in Albany, New York, in 2016; and
WHEREAS, Residents of this great State must never forget the courage
with which these men and women served their country; and
WHEREAS, Having exhibited his patriotism both at home and abroad,
Captain William Allendorph demonstrated his love for his country and
merits forevermore the highest respect of his State and Nation; and
WHEREAS, Our Nation's veterans deserve to be recognized, commended
and thanked by the people of the State of New York for their service and
for their dedication to their communities, their State and their Nation;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Captain William Allendorph upon the occasion of his designation
as recipient of a Liberty Medal, the highest honor bestowed upon an
individual by the New York State Senate; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Captain William Allendorph.
