CONGRATULATING Michael G. Marino upon the occasion
of celebrating his 102nd Birthday

WHEREAS, Senior citizens bring a wealth of experience and knowledge
to the increasingly active roles they play in today's society; their
past contributions and future participation are a vital part of, and
valuable asset to, the fabric of community life and activity; and

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to commemorate
and recognize certain milestones celebrated by citizens of this great
Empire State; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
congratulate Michael G. Marino upon the occasion of his 102nd Birthday
to be celebrated on Thursday, March 4, 2021; and

WHEREAS, Michael G. Marino, affectionately known as Mikey, was born
on March 4, 1919, in Brooklyn, New York; and

WHEREAS, On January 1, 1941, Michael G. Marino was drafted into the
National Guard in upstate New York; and

WHEREAS, With a need for more soldiers, Michael G. Marino's status
was changed to the United States Army, where he proudly served his
country during World War II in the division known as The Apple Knockers
because all its members were from the State of New York; and

WHEREAS, Michael G. Marino served his basic training at Fort
McClellan in Alabama, 27th Division New York State, 150th Infantry
Regiment; in March of 1942, he was sent to El Paso, California, where he
trained for several months; and

WHEREAS, While waiting for his assignment, Michael G. Marino was
sent to the Hawaiian Islands before participating in the Battle of
Saipan in the Marianas Islands where he valiantly fought from June to
July of 1944; and

WHEREAS, This brave soldier was seriously injured during action and
was taken south of the equator by ship and treated at the New Caledonia
Hospital, South Pacific Islands; upon discharge, he was sent to Biloxi,
Mississippi to train as a mechanic for one month; he then requested, and
was granted, a transfer to New Jersey to serve out his time as a clerk;
Staff Sergeant Michael G. Marino proudly served his country for four
years and 9 months; and

WHEREAS, Michael and Gloria Marino were united in marriage and
together raised their three daughters, Maria, Valentina and Gloria, and
one son, Michael, at the home where he continues to reside today on
Hawthorne Street in Massapequa, New York; and

WHEREAS, Michael G. Marino, with his zest for life, has inspired and
enhanced the lives of his family and friends; and


WHEREAS, This distinguished man has experienced the incredible joys
and sorrows characteristic of and reserved for those with the stamina
and courage to savor a full life; and

WHEREAS, Michael G. Marino has enriched the lives of those around
him through his joyous and sincere love for others and through the
quiescent charm and wisdom which comes only from a fullness of years;
and

WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to publicly
recognize those who have reached such a remarkable age and who have
witnessed and celebrated the innovations, cultural developments and
awesome achievements of this country during the last century, while
themselves contributing to the growth and excellence of this great
Empire State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Michael G. Marino upon the occasion of celebrating his
102nd Birthday; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Michael G. Marino.
