CONGRATULATING Dr. Mary Jean Marsico upon the
occasion of her retirement after 30 years of
dedicated service to Rockland BOCES

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to acknowledge the
significant milestones in the distinguished careers of those outstanding
educational leaders, whose dedication and achievements have been
instrumental in developing character and academic excellence in the
young people of New York State; and

WHEREAS, New York State's commitment to education is unparalleled;
its history and stature are secured by the superlative caliber of its
educational professionals and the students they inspire; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to congratulate Dr.
Mary Jean Marsico upon the occasion of her retirement after 30 years of
dedicated service to Rockland BOCES; she will officially retire on June
30, 2021; and

WHEREAS, The future success of our State and Nation is dependent
upon individuals such as Dr. Mary Jean Marsico, who have dedicated their
lives nurturing our most precious resource, our youth; and

WHEREAS, The Chief Operating Officer/Deputy District Superintendent
Dr. Mary Jean Marsico oversees daily operations of Rockland BOCES and
the administration of the programs and services provided at the request
of component districts; and

WHEREAS, Additionally, Dr. Mary Jean Marsico leads efforts involving
curriculum development, building organizational capacity across
divisions and cross-sector partnerships; and

WHEREAS, Her three decades of school leadership experience and deep
relationships with elected officials, business leaders and the local
community play a pivotal role in the growth and success of Rockland
BOCES and the agency's diverse student population; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Mary Jean Marsico possesses a keen understanding of
educational excellence, pedagogy and current research, and the
experience and foresight to understand how decisions affect students of
all ages and abilities, teachers and learning; and

WHEREAS, She has worked at Rockland BOCES for 30 years and served as
Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent for more than 20 of those
years; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Mary Jean Marsico is well-known for her work with
children on the autism spectrum, as well as her passion for advocacy for
the rights of students with disabilities; and

WHEREAS, As Chief Operating Officer/Deputy District Superintendent,
Dr. Mary Jean Marsico works closely with the executive team to provide

forward-thinking strategic leadership to a staff of well over 1,000
employees; and

WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body to commend the
efforts of those individuals who have worked to support our proud
tradition of public education by providing their skills and talents to
our schools; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Dr. Mary Jean Marsico upon the occasion of her retirement,
and to wish her well in all her future endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Dr. Mary Jean Marsico.
