MOURNING the death of Irving A. Isenberg, renowned
fire chief, distinguished citizen and devoted member
of his community

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavor
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great
State of New York; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is moved to mourn the death of Irving
A. Isenberg of Getzville, New York, who died on Friday, November 1,
2019, at the age of 55 from myeloma, a bone marrow cancer, after
heroically volunteering his time and energies at Ground Zero; and

WHEREAS, Born on December 17, 1963, Irving A. Isenberg was a proud
member of the Getzville Fire Department for 29 years, during which time
he served as fire chief for four years and president for two years; and

WHEREAS, Furthermore, in the days following the terrorist attacks of
the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001, Irving A. Isenberg, along
with other Getzville Fire Department members, assisted with efforts to
locate victims at the site of Ground Zero, where he is credited with the
rescue of multiple civilians from the rubble; and

WHEREAS, In addition to his valuable fire service, Irving A.
Isenberg was a dedicated member of four different ambulance companies as
a first responder, an IT Director at Twin City Ambulance, and Plant
Manager for his family's business, Isenberg Meats; and

WHEREAS, Of his many interests, Irving A. Isenberg loved his family,
dogs, collecting guns, and telling jokes; and

WHEREAS, Irving A. Isenberg genuinely loved being a firefighter, and
through his strong work ethic, great courage, and positive attitude, he
inspired numerous fellow firefighters; and

WHEREAS, Irving A. Isenberg received recognition for his
self-sacrifice during a ceremony on September 30, 2021, when his name
was added to the state memorial dedicated to EMS workers in Albany, New
York; and

WHEREAS, Irving A. Isenberg is survived by his wife, Lisa; his
mother, Alice; sisters, Susan Boyar and Ruth Lipsitz; stepsons, Jeffrey
and Aaron Costa; and one granddaughter; and

WHEREAS, Throughout his meritorious life, Irving A. Isenberg touched
many through his kindness and commitment to service, and, as we recall
the loss of this great man, we memorialize his remarkable life and the
enormous impact he had on everyone with whom he came in contact; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to convey its
grateful appreciation and heartfelt regret in recognition of a

courageous firefighter who dedicated his purposeful life and career in
faithful service to his family and community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Irving A. Isenberg, renowned firefighter,
distinguished citizen and devoted member of his community; and be it
further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Irving A. Isenberg.
