Assembly Resolution No. 857

COMMENDING Dale Grinnell upon the occasion of his
designation as an Outstanding Senior Citizen of the
Year by the Washington County Office for the Aging

WHEREAS, Senior citizens bring a wealth of experience and knowledge
to the increasingly active roles they play in today's society; their
past contributions and future participation are a vital part of, and
valuable asset to, the fabric of community life and activity; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Dale
Grinnell upon the occasion of his designation as an Outstanding Senior
Citizen of the Year by the Washington County Office for the Aging to be
celebrated at the Board of Supervisors meeting on Friday, June 17, 2022;
and

WHEREAS, Each May, the New York State Office for the Aging pauses to
acknowledge the outstanding contributions made by older citizens during
National Older Americans Month; this year's theme is "Age My Way"; and

WHEREAS, Members of older generations have helped build and shape
our Nation to be the greatest in the world; they have defended our
freedoms and values to ensure that those who come after them may have
better lives; nowhere in the Nation is the legacy of their efforts more
visible and more a part of the lives of all citizens than here in the
State of New York; and

WHEREAS, Dale Grinnell was born to Wilbur and Eunice Grinnell and
grew up in various Washington County towns including Hartford, Fort Ann,
and the Hamlet of Kingsbury; he attended a one-room schoolhouse and grew
up working on his family's 250 head dairy farm, named Wilbur Grinnell
and Sons Dairy Farm; his family also had a rodeo arena, and he was
trick-riding at the young age of seven; and

WHEREAS, In 1965, Dale Grinnell moved to Fort Ann, New York, and
started working at Finch-Pruyn Paper in Glens Falls, New York,
officially retiring in 2000 after 35 years of service; and

WHEREAS, Dale Grinnell married his wife Coral in 1974, and together,
they raised six children, Debbie, Deanna, Dennise, Donna, Yvonne, and
Stephen; today, he is the loving grandfather of several grandchildren
and great grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, A vital member of his community, Dale Grinnell has always
been willing to lend a helping hand wherever he is needed; he is a
representative of the Finch-Pruyn Retirees' Association, and serves as
the Treasurer of the Washington County Historical Society and
administrator of historical markers; and

WHEREAS, Dale Grinnell also holds the title of Vice President of the
Fort Ann Historical Society and was a contributor to the organization's
2007 book entitled 300 Years of History; he was active in the citizens'
group which worked to save Battle Hill by assisting in getting grants

for the project, and was a member of the Town of Fort Ann Cemetery
Committee; and

WHEREAS, Dale Grinnell is an active member of the Cornerstone Bible
Church in Fort Ann, serving as both a deacon and manager of the food
pantry; in this capacity, he takes great pride making sure food is
getting to the people in need throughout his community; during the
COVID-19 pandemic, he and his wife successfully ran the food pantry
while taking necessary precautions to prevent the spread of the virus;
and

WHEREAS, This kindhearted and compassionate man truly believes
volunteerism is an essential element of all societies; it provides a way
in which the human values of community, caring and serving can be
sustained and strengthened; and

WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an
individual for the benefit of others which Dale Grinnell has displayed
throughout his life; and

WHEREAS, Dale Grinnell, a very active and industrious gentleman, has
inspired and enriched the lives of those he serves through his
volunteerism, generously sharing the wisdom gained over years of
experiencing life to its fullest; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Dale Grinnell upon the occasion of his designation as an
Outstanding Senior Citizen of the Year by the Washington County Office
for the Aging; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Dale Grinnell.
