BILL NUMBER: S7504 SPONSOR: STEC TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the highway law, in relation to designating a portion of the state highway system as the "Trooper Brian S. Falb Memorial Bridges" PURPOSE: To name bridges in the Town of Plattsburgh on Interstate 87 in honor of Trooper Brian S. Falb who died from cancer stemming from his service at the World Trade Center during the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001. SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS: Section 1 amends the highway law by adding a new section to 344-n to designate the bridges across the Saranac River in the Town of Platts- burgh in memory of Trooper Brian S. STEC -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Rules AN ACT to amend the highway law, in relation to designating a portion of the state highway system as the "Trooper Brian S. Falb Memorial Bridg- es" THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. The highway law is amended by adding a new section 344-n to read as follows: § 344-N. PORTION OF THE STATE HIGHWAY SYSTEM TO BE DESIGNATED AS THE "TROOPER BRIAN S. FALB MEMORIAL BRIDGES". ALL THAT PORTION OF THE STATE HIGHWAY SYSTEM CONSTITUTING THE BRIDGES ON INTERSTATE EIGHTY-SEVEN, CROSSING THE SARANAC RIVER IN THE TOWN OF PLATTSBURGH, COUNTY OF CLIN- TON, SHALL BE DESIGNATED AND KNOWN AS THE "TROOPER BRIAN S. FALB MEMORI- AL BRIDGES". § 2. The commissioner of transportation shall provide for the instal- lation and maintenance of adequate signing of the state highway system as designated pursuant to section one of this act. However, to avoid confusion and to limit any possible disruption of commerce, the desig- nation called for pursuant to section one of this act shall be one of ceremonial nature and the official name of such bridge shall not be changed as a result of this act. § 3. This act shall take effect immediately. EXPLANATION--Matter in ITALICS (underscored) is new; matter in brackets [ ] is old law to be omitted. LBD13173-01-1
