Authorizes the towns of Huntington, Smithtown and Brookhaven, in the county of Suffolk to make ordinances prohibiting the discharge of longbows and crossbows in areas in which such activity may be hazardous to the general public or nearby residents.

 Introduced  by  Sen. MATTERA -- read twice and ordered printed, and when
   printed to be committed to the Committee on Local Government
 
 AN ACT to amend the town law, in relation to authorizing certain munici-
   palities to make ordinances regarding longbows and crossbows
 
   THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND  ASSEM-
 BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

   Section  1.  Section  130 of the town law is amended by adding two new
 subdivisions 30 and 31 to read as follows:
   30. LONGBOWS. IN THE TOWNS OF HUNTINGTON, SMITHTOWN AND BROOKHAVEN, IN
 THE COUNTY OF SUFFOLK PROHIBITING THE DISCHARGE OF LONGBOWS IN AREAS  IN
 WHICH  SUCH  ACTIVITY  MAY  BE HAZARDOUS TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC OR NEARBY
 RESIDENTS, AND PROVIDING FOR THE POSTING OF SUCH AREAS WITH SIGNS GIVING
 NOTICE OF SUCH REGULATIONS, WHICH ORDINANCES, RULES AND REGULATIONS  MAY
 BE  MORE,  BUT  NOT  LESS,  RESTRICTIVE THAN ANY OTHER PROVISION OF LAW.
 THIRTY DAYS PRIOR TO THE ADOPTION OF  ANY  ORDINANCE  CHANGING  THE  ONE
 HUNDRED  FIFTY  FOOT RULE ESTABLISHED PURSUANT TO SECTION 11-0931 OF THE
 ENVIRONMENTAL CONSERVATION LAW, NOTICE MUST  BE  SENT  TO  THE  REGIONAL
 SUPERVISOR OF FISH AND GAME OF THE DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL CONSERVA-
 TION, NOTIFYING HIM OF SUCH INTENTION.
   31.  CROSSBOWS.  IN THE TOWNS OF HUNTINGTON, SMITHTOWN AND BROOKHAVEN,
 IN THE COUNTY OF SUFFOLK PROHIBITING THE DISCHARGE OF CROSSBOWS IN AREAS
 IN WHICH SUCH ACTIVITY MAY BE HAZARDOUS TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC OR  NEARBY
 RESIDENTS, AND PROVIDING FOR THE POSTING OF SUCH AREAS WITH SIGNS GIVING
 NOTICE  OF SUCH REGULATIONS, WHICH ORDINANCES, RULES AND REGULATIONS MAY
 BE MORE, BUT NOT LESS, RESTRICTIVE THAN  ANY  OTHER  PROVISION  OF  LAW.
 THIRTY  DAYS  PRIOR  TO  THE  ADOPTION OF ANY ORDINANCE CHANGING THE TWO
 HUNDRED FIFTY FOOT RULE ESTABLISHED PURSUANT TO SECTION 11-0931  OF  THE
 ENVIRONMENTAL  CONSERVATION  LAW,  NOTICE  MUST  BE SENT TO THE REGIONAL
 SUPERVISOR OF FISH AND GAME OF THE DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL CONSERVA-
 TION, NOTIFYING HIM OF SUCH INTENTION.
   § 2. This act shall take effect on the ninetieth day  after  it  shall
 have become a law.
