COMMEMORATING the 50th Anniversary of Fort Greene
Council, Inc.

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that
the quality and character of life in the communities across New York
State are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those
organizations and individuals that are devoted to the welfare of the
community and its citizenry; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commemorate the 50th Anniversary of Fort Greene Council, Inc.; and

WHEREAS, Established in Brooklyn, New York, in 1973, and
incorporated in 1974, Fort Greene Council (FGC) is a non-profit
organization which strives to provide services at several integral
stages of the life cycle beginning with its early childhood programs and
concluding with its programs for older adults; and

WHEREAS, Remaining true to its mission, Fort Greene Council
addresses the critical needs of the citizens in Brooklyn through its
steadfast commitment to create programs which serve the community,
including 14 older adult clubs in seven community districts, and one day
care center; and

WHEREAS, Furthermore, this vital organization consists of 12 centers
across Brooklyn which specialize in areas such as senior care,
childcare, and educational programs; and

WHEREAS, Older adult clubs provide comprehensive services to the
elderly including breakfast, lunch, home delivered meals, educational
and recreational programs and activities, legal assistance, social
services, transportation services, and information and referral
services; and

WHEREAS, Likewise, the day care programs have been an integral part
of the Bedford Stuyvesant and Fort Greene communities in Brooklyn,
providing quality early childhood education; and

WHEREAS, Fort Greene Council launched JAZZ 966 in 1990 to promote
jazz in the community for seniors and the public at large; the
organization's love and care for intergenerational music is their main
motivation as they run Jazz 966, which allows older generations of
musicians to perform and share their skills with newer generations of
musicians; and

WHEREAS, With great consideration to the risks and effects of the
COVID-19 Pandemic, the Fort Greene Council offers a fully virtual adult
club, where people can join online and enjoy activities to be connected
even in the safety of their homes; and

WHEREAS, Fort Greene Council remains a solid cornerstone of the
community, and stands ready to continue its important mission for many
years to come; and

WHEREAS, Over its distinguished 50-year history, Fort Greene Council
has demonstrated continuous service to the residents and communities
which it serves; and

WHEREAS, The success of Fort Greene Council is in direct correlation
to the efforts of its dedicated staff and Board of Directors, whose
involvement is, and always has been, characterized by an impressive
commitment, an unbridled enthusiasm, and an uncompromising standard of
excellence in all endeavors on behalf of the organization and the
community it serves; and

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 50th Anniversary of Fort Greene Council, Inc.; and be it
further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Fort Greene Council, Inc.
