BILL NUMBER: S1139 SPONSOR: ORTT TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend chapter 20 of the laws of 1985 creating the Sanborn Volunteer and Exempt Firemen's Benevolent Association, Inc., and provid- ing for its powers and duties, in relation to its purpose and the use of foreign fire insurance premiums PURPOSE: To authorize the Sanborn Volunteer and Exempt Firemen's Benevolent Asso- ciation to provide the relief, aid and assistance of members and their families who are injured. SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS: Section 3 is amended to change the purpose of the association to provide the relief, aid and assistance of such members and their families who are injured, disabled or indigent. ORTT -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Local Government AN ACT to amend chapter 20 of the laws of 1985 creating the Sanborn Volunteer and Exempt Firemen's Benevolent Association, Inc., and providing for its powers and duties, in relation to its purpose and the use of foreign fire insurance premiums THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Sections 3 and 7 of chapter 20 of the laws of 1985 creating the Sanborn Volunteer and Exempt Firemen's Benevolent Association, Inc., and providing for its powers and duties, are amended to read as follows: § 3. Purposes. The purposes of such corporation shall be the mainte- nance of suitable headquarters for, and the promotion of friendly asso- ciation for the betterment of the members of such corporation and their relations with the community, for the promotion of fraternal intercourse among the members of such corporation, to study and disseminate among the members of such corporation the most efficient manner of fighting fires, the relief, aid and assistance of such members and their families who are INJURED, disabled or indigent, FOR THE PROMOTION AND SAFEGUARD- ING OF THE WELFARE OF THE VOLUNTEER MEMBERS OF SUCH CORPORATION AND THEIR FAMILIES, FOR THE PROVISION FOR THE HEALTH AND SAFETY OF THE VOLUNTEER MEMBERS OF SUCH CORPORATION, AND FOR THE ENHANCEMENT OF THE MORALE OF THE VOLUNTEER MEMBERS OF SUCH CORPORATION THROUGH THE PROVISION OF SOCIAL AND RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES FOR THE VOLUNTEER MEMBERS OF THE CORPORATION, AND THE PROMOTION OF THE VOLUNTEER FIRE SERVICE WITHIN THE TERRITORY PROTECTED BY SUCH FIRE DEPARTMENT OF THE SANBORN VOLUNTEER AND EXEMPT FIREMEN'S BENEVOLENT ASSOCIATION, INC., and to acquire real and personal property such as may be necessary for the purposes herein set forth and the promotion of the welfare of the volun- teer fire service within the territory now served or which may hereafter be served by the Sanborn Fire Company.
