 Introduced  by Sens. JACKSON, PERSAUD -- read twice and ordered printed,
   and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Education
 
 AN ACT to amend the  education  law,  in  relation  to  authorizing  and
   directing  the commissioner of education to allow students attending a
   school closed due to a viral outbreak to  receive  instructional  time
   for work completed outside of the school; and providing for the repeal
   of such provisions upon expiration thereof
 
   THE  PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM-
 BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
 
   Section 1. Section 305 of the education law is amended by adding a new
 subdivision 57 to read as follows:
   57. THE COMMISSIONER IS AUTHORIZED AND DIRECTED  TO  PROMULGATE  RULES
 AND  REGULATIONS  WHICH  ALLOW  FOR  INSTRUCTIONAL  HOURS  TO BE ACCRUED
 TOWARDS THE REQUIRED ANNUAL INSTRUCTIONAL HOURS AND ANY  OTHER  INSTRUC-
 TIONAL HOUR REQUIREMENT FOR THE STUDENT'S GRADE FOR THE AMOUNT OF TIME A
 STUDENT  SPENDS  COMPLETING SCHOOL WORK OUTSIDE OF THE SCHOOL WHILE SUCH
 SCHOOL IS CLOSED DUE TO A VIRAL OUTBREAK.
   § 2. This act shall take effect immediately and shall  expire  and  be
 deemed repealed December 31, 2023.
