HINCHEY -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Civil Service and Pensions AN ACT in relation to authorizing the county of Columbia to reinstate and employ Paul Strobel as a part-time deputy sheriff THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Notwithstanding the provisions of paragraph (b) of subdivi- sion 4 of section 58 of the civil service law, or any other law to the contrary, the county of Columbia is hereby authorized to reinstate Paul Strobel, who held a permanent appointment as deputy sheriff in such county until August 2002 and who served as a sworn member of the divi- sion of state police since such time until his retirement on February 15, 2023, as a part-time deputy sheriff with the sheriff's department of such county, provided that he files a written request to that effect with the sheriff of the county of Columbia within one year of the effec- tive date of this act and complies with the provisions of paragraph (c) of subdivision 1 of section 58 of the civil service law. § 2. Paul Strobel shall otherwise be subject to the merit and fitness provisions of the civil service law applicable to part-time police offi- cers. § 3. This act shall take effect immediately.
