BILL NUMBER: S6898 SPONSOR: BROUK TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the highway law, in relation to designating a portion of the state highway system as the "Major General Norbert J. Rappl Memorial Highway" PURPOSE: This bill would rename a portion of highway in the Town of Irondequoit (Monroe County) as "Major General Norbert J. Rappl Memorial Highway". SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS: Section 1 of the bill would amend the highway law, and add a new section 344 - Subdivision 1 defines a portion of NY-590 between Empire Boulevard and Titus Ave in Irondequoit, NY as the area to be known as the "Major General Norbert J. Rappl Memorial Highway" Section 2 of the bill sets forth that the designation is of a ceremonial

BROUK -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Transportation AN ACT to amend the highway law, in relation to designating a portion of the state highway system as the "Major General Norbert J. Rappl Memo- rial Highway" THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. The highway law is amended by adding a new section 344-o to read as follows: § 344-O. PORTION OF THE STATE HIGHWAY SYSTEM TO BE DESIGNATED AS THE "MAJOR GENERAL NORBERT J. RAPPL MEMORIAL HIGHWAY". ALL THAT PORTION OF THE STATE HIGHWAY SYSTEM CONSTITUTING STATE ROUTE FIVE HUNDRED NINETY BETWEEN EMPIRE BOULEVARD AND TITUS AVENUE IN THE TOWN OF IRONDEQUOIT, COUNTY OF MONROE, SHALL BE KNOWN AND DESIGNATED AS THE "MAJOR GENERAL NORBERT J. RAPPL MEMORIAL HIGHWAY". § 2. The commissioner of transportation shall provide for the instal- lation and maintenance of adequate signing of the state highway system as designated pursuant to section one of this act. However, to avoid confusion and to limit any possible disruption of commerce, the desig- nation called for pursuant to section one of this act shall be one of ceremonial nature and the official name of such highway shall not be changed as a result of this act. § 3. This act shall take effect immediately. EXPLANATION--Matter in ITALICS (underscored) is new; matter in brackets [ ] is old law to be omitted. LBD07127-01-3
