K. BROWN -- read once and referred to the Commit- tee on Election Law AN ACT AN ACT to amend the election law, in relation to requiring the state board of elections to conduct a background check on all candi- dates which appear on a ballot THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Section 3-102 of the election law is amended by adding a new subdivision 19 to read as follows: 19. PERFORM A BACKGROUND CHECK ON EACH CANDIDATE WHICH WILL APPEAR ON A BALLOT IN AN ELECTION NO LATER THAN THIRTY DAYS PRIOR TO SUCH ELECTION. § 2. This act shall take effect immediately. EXPLANATION--Matter in ITALICS (underscored) is new; matter in brackets [ ] is old law to be omitted. LBD06296-01-5
