LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Reverend Peter Crego and Sue Ellen Crego
upon the occasion of their designation as recipients of the 2012 Conven-
tion Days Community Service Award

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Reverend Peter Crego and Sue Ellen Crego have given not only
of their time and energies but also of their competence, intelligence
and leadership and consequently have been designated for special honor;
and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Reverend Peter
Crego and Sue Ellen Crego upon the occasion of their designation as
recipients of the 2012 Convention Days Community Service Award, to be
celebrated on Friday, July 20, 2012, at the Seneca Falls Historical
Society, Seneca Falls, New York; and
WHEREAS, Reverend Peter Crego and Sue Ellen Crego have been called
upon to contribute their time and talents to countless civic and chari-
table endeavors and have always given of themselves unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, Sue Ellen Crego attended Gulf Park College for Women in
Mississippi, where she received an associate's degree in clothing
design; from there, she enrolled in the Dental Hygiene Program at the
University of Louisville Dental School and graduated in 1971; and
WHEREAS, A graduate of the Manlius School, Reverend Peter Crego went
on to Springfield College, Massachusetts, where he received a Bachelor
of Science degree in Sociology; he later entered Louisville Presbyterian
Theological Seminary, graduating with a Master of Divinity degree in
1971; and
WHEREAS, Immediately following graduation, Reverend Peter Crego
entered the United States Naval Chaplains School in Newport, Rhode
Island, for training; he received an Ensign Commission in the Navy
Reserve; and
WHEREAS, Sue Ellen and Peter Crego met while both in school in Louis-
ville at a party hosted by a mutual friend; they were married on Septem-
ber 4, 1971, in the Methodist Church, Hopkinsville, Kentucky; and
WHEREAS, On March 1, 1982, Sue Ellen and Peter Crego moved into the
Seneca Falls Presbyterian Church's Manse and stayed for 25 years, the
longest pastorate on record for the church; Sue Ellen worked as a Dental
Hygienist for Dr. Fred Riegel for a number of years; and
WHEREAS, Valued and involved members of the community, Sue Ellen and
Reverend Peter Crego have actively served the Seneca Falls community in
numerous capacities; and
WHEREAS, Sue Ellen Crego was active as a board member for Family Coun-
seling; she helped to raise funds for the former Traylor Brown Hospital
and served as a public relations promoter for Celebrate 98 activities
held in the church; and
WHEREAS, Moreover, Sue Ellen Crego is a member of the Seneca County
Children's Committee and serves as a Hospice Volunteer; she also served
as an Elder in the church; and
WHEREAS, Reverend Peter Crego was named president of C.A.U.S.E.
(Citizens for an Appropriate Use to save the site of the memorial to
Eisenhower College); and
WHEREAS, Reverend Crego's other involvement has included serving on
the Pre Trial Diversion Program for Seneca County and as President of
Rotary, Seneca County Nutrition Committee, Council of Church's, ARC
Board, House of Concern Board, and the Red Cross Board; and

WHEREAS, The Cregos are both very involved with the Seneca Falls
Historical Society, the Meals on Wheels program and Hospice; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of their community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Reverend Peter Crego and Sue Ellen
Crego have stood constant in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by individuals
for the benefit of others which Reverend Peter Crego and Sue Ellen Crego
have displayed throughout their lives; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Reverend Peter Crego and Sue Ellen Crego upon the occasion of
their designation as recipients of the 2012 Convention Days Community
Service Award; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Reverend Peter Crego and Sue Ellen Crego.
