LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION mourning the death of Patricia A. Parete, distin-
guished police officer and devoted member of her community

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to convey its grateful
appreciation and heartfelt regret in recognition of the loss of a coura-
geous police officer who dedicated her purposeful life and career in
faithful service to her family, community and the Buffalo Police Depart-
ment; and
WHEREAS, It is with profound sadness that this Legislative Body
records the passing of City of Buffalo Police Officer Patricia A.
Parete, who, after serving with dedication, loyalty and compassion,
devoted her purposeful life and career to serve and protect; and
WHEREAS, Patricia A. Parete of Buffalo, New York, was wounded in the
line of duty on December 5, 2006; after a long and spirited battle, she
succumbed to her injuries and died on Saturday, February 2, 2013; and
WHEREAS, Patricia "Patty" Parete was born on January 12, 1965; she
became a member of the Buffalo Police Department on January 25, 2001, at
the age of 36; and
WHEREAS, An avid lover of the outdoors and nature, Patricia A. Parete
was an advocate of physical fitness; and
WHEREAS, She also loved her Harley-Davidson; in 2007, the Buffalo
community united and held a benefit in her honor; the funds raised were
used to provide for the necessary care Patricia required during her
recovery; in addition, comedian Jay Leno donated an autographed Harley
Davidson Sportster motorcycle to be raffled off at the benefit; and
WHEREAS, In her duties as a police officer, Patricia A. Parete was
known to have street smarts and was described by many as a fighter; her
bravery coupled with her courageous work ethic made the City of Buffalo
a safer place to live and work; and
WHEREAS, Predeceased by her mother, Dorothea A. (Nagel) Parete, and
her uncle, Roger Nagel, Patricia A. Parete is survived by her loving
friend, Polly Strait; her father, Anthony J. Sr. (Tammy) Parete;
siblings, Anthony Jr. (Joyce), Maria, Jonanthony, and Angelina Parete;
and one aunt, Jean Nagel; as well as her cousins, Jason and Chuck
(Kristina) Nagel; and
WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit, imbued with a sense of
compassion, and comforted by a loving family, Police Officer Patricia A.
Parete leaves behind a legacy which will long endure the passage of time
and will remain as a comforting memory to all she served and befriended;
she will be deeply missed and truly merits the grateful tribute of this
Legislative Body; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Patricia A. Parete, distinguished police officer and
devoted member of her community, noting the significance of her contrib-
utions on behalf of the citizens of this noble Empire State and express-
ing its deepest condolences to her family; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the family of Patricia A. Parete.
