LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Councilwoman Patricia Jaworowicz upon
the occasion of her retirement after 31 years of distinguished service
to the Town of Cheektowaga, New York

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body seeks to acknowledge those individuals
whose professional lives and civic endeavors serve to enhance the stat-
ure of the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Councilwoman Patricia Jaworowicz upon the occasion of her retirement
after 31 years of dedicated service to the Town of Cheektowaga, New
York; and
WHEREAS, To be specific, Councilwoman Patricia Jaworowicz served as a
council member in the Town of Cheektowaga for 31 years, 1 month, and 20
days; she officially resigned on February 20, 2013; and
WHEREAS, Patricia Jaworowicz is a lifelong Town of Cheektowaga resi-
dent; she grew up in the William Street area and attended St. Josaphat's
Parochial School and Bishop Colton High School; and
WHEREAS, Patricia Jaworowicz joined the Cheektowaga Committee in 1971
and was elected to serve as vice-chair in 1974; in 1976, she was named
one of New York State's 41 electors and participated in the Electoral
College; and
WHEREAS, Patricia Jaworowicz worked in various levels of public
service; she served on the central staff of the Erie County Legislature
and was promoted to the Legislature's Senior Clerk; and
WHEREAS, Patricia Jaworowicz announced her candidacy for Cheektowaga
Town Council in 1981 and handily won the primary and general election;
in January of 1982, she became the first woman ever elected to the
Cheektowaga Town Board; and
WHEREAS, Over a long and successful career, Councilwoman Patricia
Jaworowicz served as the chairperson of the Town Board's Police and
Justice Courts Committee and the Zoning and Planning Committee; and
WHEREAS, Councilwoman Patricia Jaworowicz was heavily involved with
the Walden Galleria Mall project from 1987 to 1989 when the mall opened;
she was an early supporter of the project even though it was not
initially popular because she felt it was the best move for the town;
the Walden Galleria Mall later transformed Cheektowaga into the retail
epicenter of Western New York; and
WHEREAS, Councilwoman Jaworowicz was heavily involved in community
organizations including the William Street Taxpayers Association, the
Cheektowaga Patriotic Commission, the Cheektowaga Symphony Orchestra and
the Cheektowaga Chamber of Commerce; and
WHEREAS, Councilwoman Patricia Jaworowicz has left behind a long lega-
cy of fighting for Cheektowaga families; as the first woman ever elected
to the Cheektowaga Town Board, she is considered a trailblazer for women
in Western New York and throughout this great Empire State; and
WHEREAS, With her throughout have been her children, Tim and Pam, as
well as her four grandchildren, all of whom feel privileged to be a part
of her life and rejoice in her achievements; and
WHEREAS, The quality and character of life in this Nation, and in the
great State of New York, is reflective of the purposeful lives and good
works of those civic-minded community members who dedicate their lives
and career to the service of others; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the Empire State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Councilwoman Patricia Jaworowicz upon the occasion of her retire-
ment after 31 years of distinguished service to the Town of Cheektowaga,
New York; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Patricia Jaworowicz.
