LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Catherine Allocca upon the occa-
sion of her 104th Birthday

WHEREAS, Catherine Allocca was born on March 17, 1909 in Italy, while
her parents were visiting family and came to America when her parents
returned to the United States when she was four weeks old; and
WHEREAS, She lived most of her young life in Long Island City and on
Staten Island; at the age of 22 she married Frank Allocca and they moved
to Brooklyn, New York, where they raised three children, Vincent,
Collette, and Alberta; and
WHEREAS, Catherine Allocca is now the proud and loving grandmother of
seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, Catherine Allocca spent her life caring for her family; she
had extraordinary skills in the kitchen; people often enjoyed going to
her home because she was such an amazing cook and baker; and
WHEREAS, The delicious smell of homemade sauces and pastas permeated
her home; those who were lucky enough to be invited to visit were guar-
anteed a great meal and a fantastic dessert; to this day, people talk
about her peach and blueberry pies, cheesecake, chocolate cake, crumb
cake, and muffins; and
WHEREAS, Catherine Allocca led an active life; she was always on the
move, from creating things in the kitchen to walking all over the neigh-
borhood; she still loves all types of dancing, from the Charleston and
Peabody, to the Macarena; and
WHEREAS, At 104 Catherine Allocca still dances and is always looking
forward to the next party or family celebration; and
WHEREAS, Catherine Allocca is currently a resident of the St. Nicholas
Home in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, where she is loved by all the residents and
staff; and
WHEREAS, Catherine Allocca considers the secret to her long life to be
her daily diet of farina, her sharp memory, her sense of direction, and
most importantly her calm temperament and believes that her road to
longevity has been paved with the enjoyment of the simple things in
life, including cake, jelly donuts and coffee with lots of milk and
sugar; and
WHEREAS, This exceptional centenarian, with her zest for life, has
inspired and enhanced the lives of her family and friends; and
WHEREAS, This distinguished woman, who has experienced the incredible
joys and sorrows characteristic of and reserved for those with the
stamina and courage to savor a full life, has inspired the lives of her
many friends and family; and
WHEREAS, This beloved lady has enriched the lives of those around her
through her joyous and sincere love for others and through the quiescent
charm and wisdom which comes only from a fullness of years; and
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to publicly recog-
nize those who have reached such a remarkable age and who have witnessed
and celebrated the innovations, cultural developments and awesome
achievements of this country during the last century, while themselves
contributing to the growth and excellence of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Catherine Allocca upon the occasion of her 104th Birthday
to be celebrated with a party at the St. Nicholas Home on Friday, March
15, 2013; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Catherine Allocca.
