August 5, 2013

Senator Jack M. Martins was at Hofstra Stadium on Saturday night, August 3 to watch the New York Cosmos' first victory in 29 years.  In front of a sellout crown of nearly 12,000, the Cosmos defeated The Fort Lauderdale Strikers in the North American Soccer League home opener. On hand, to bring back the memories of the Cosmos's glory year was soccer legend Pele.

Senator Martins has been instrumental in trying to find a permanent home for the Cosmos. The franchise has proposed building a privately funded world-class stadium in the south lot at Belmont Park, a project the Senator has publicly supported because of its potential for economic revitalization in Elmont.
