Birch Family Services and State Senator Joseph Addabbo, Jr. once again sponsored a successful hiring event for the local community, with dozens of applicants headed down the path to potential employment.

“These mass hiring events always prove successful and I am thrilled we can continue that tradition. So many of my constituents in the Rockaways struggle with unemployment and any opportunity we can bring to ease that burden is a victory in my book,” Addabbo said.

More than 80 percent of applicants from this event are moving forward to a second interview with Birch Family Services. If approved, they will join an organization that provides pre-school special education, special education, head start and day care, small supervised residences, day habilitation for graduates and family support to overcome obstacles they face when raising children with disabilities. The organization has more than 3,000 employees specialized in a specific care sector.

“In the economy we live in, a lot of people can’t find employment. The type of employment we offer is important because we’re working with people with autism and other developmental disabilities,” said Carlos Coriano of Administrative Assistance and Community Services at Birch. “We can find good, hard-working, thoughtful people to work with these individuals. So that’s a plus for them and a plus for us.”
