Walczyk Wears Lavender Bow Tie

Senator Mark Walczyk has chosen to proudly wear a lavender tie in Albany today to spread awareness for all cancers. According to the American Association for Cancer Research, the month of February is noted as the month to raise awareness for prevention of all cancers.

According to the AACR and their website, Research has shown that nearly half of all deaths from cancer and 40 percent of all cancers diagnosed in the United States can be attributed to preventable causes. This can range from things like smoking, excess body weight, physical inactivity, and excessive exposure to the sun. As a result, steps such as refraining or quitting smoking, maintaining a healthy weight, exercising regularly, protecting your skin from the sun, and getting vaccinated against the pathogens that cause certain cancers can dramatically reduce your risk of certain cancers.

Cancer is a disease that unfortunately too many of us know well. It’s pushed our friends, family, and loved ones to needless pain and suffering. Research for treatment and awareness about preventive measures to try to protect ourselves from this dreadful disease is what we're bringing attention to today” said Walczyk.

Cathie Ouderkick Adams, Member of The Pulaski Area Relay for Life Committee states, We have found cancer awareness and patient advocacy are instrumental in a positive outcome for survivors. Cancer awareness also results in an earlier diagnosis as well as appropriate and timely treatment for those with cancer.

Senator Walczyk represents the 49th Senate District of New York State which encompasses either the entirety or part of Jefferson, Lewis, St. Lawrence, Oswego, Herkimer, Hamilton, and Fulton counties. Bow Tie Tuesday is a fun initiative by the Senator to raise awareness to important issues and will be released each Tuesday on his website and social media platforms.
