Across the country, efforts continue to raise awareness about a problem that impacts millions of older Americans. There were around 200 cases of elder abuse last year in Niagara County, according to the sheriff's office, and the message Friday at the North Tonawanda Senior Center was that talking about it can go a long way.

Senator Ortt said, “If you think someone else is being taken advantage of, call the hotline. The worst that can happen is someone looks into and it’s not a case of abuse. The best that can happen is it is abuse and we catch the bad folks and make sure they pay the right price.”

Look for signs throughout Niagara County with the number for the NY Connects Hotline – (716) 483-3030 – a number which potential victims or anyone with suspicions is urged to call.
