ALBANY, N.Y. (WRGB) - A New York state lawmaker wants to reward kidney donors for giving the gift of life.

Under a measure introduced Friday by State Sen. James Skoufis, a person who donates a kidney could have their health insurance premiums for a gold level plan in the New York State of Health marketplace paid for life by the state.

The payment would come from a kidney donor insurance fund established by Skoufis' bill, and funded through the state budget process.
