Like Harris, New York State Senate Majority Leader Andrew Stewart-Cousins (D) shared a similar path, breaking barriers and making history when she became the first woman and first black woman to lead a legislative house in New York's Capitol. She tells CBS6’s Briana Supardi that Harris’ win breathes life into the ideals that this nation was founded on. “The greatness of America is our ability to have the infusion of this great idealism and ability and liberty and justice for all, that’s the ideal, so everytime the ceiling is broken, it breathes life to that ideal,” said Stewart-Cousins.
