Buffalo, NY – New York State Senator Antoine Thompson (D-parts of Erie & Niagara counties) along with representatives from Solar Liberty and the Buffalo City Mission recently “flipped the switch” on a new solar energy system at one of the city’s largest homeless shelters.
The 204 panel roof-top system will produce 53,600 kWh of electricity, which is expected to save the Mission an estimated $6,700 in utility costs in its first year.

As the Chair of the Environmental Conservation Committee, Senator Thompson says he hopes other companies, churches and schools will follow the example set by the Buffalo City Mission.

“ The installation is a perfect example of government, a non-profit and industry collaborating on a worthwhile project.  This helps our environment, creates jobs and investment and demonstrates leadership.”

The solar panels, located on the roof of the East Tupper facility is expected to produce enough electricity to power about nine average homes.
