(Bronx, NY) – Senator José M. Serrano joined elected officials and community members  to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Roberto Clemente State Park, named in honor of the legacy of Roberto Clemente.

“Roberto Clemente was not only an amazing athlete but a tireless humanitarian, and it is important that we help preserve his legacy through the maintenance of this wonderful park,” said Senator Serrano. “Through our efforts, capital improvements for the park such as the new swimming pool and aquatics center have been accomplished. Today we also celebrate the recent announcement by Governor Andrew Cuomo that an additional $5 million will be provided for improvements to Roberto Clemente State Park. However, there is still much to be done.  As the ranking member on the Senate parks committee I will continue to fight for increased funding to provide much needed repairs in all our parks,” continued Serrano.

“Roberto Clemente State Park is a beautiful recreational space for families to come together and stay active. It is an honor to celebrate the 40th anniversary of this wonderful park and to reflect on the contributions it has made to enhance the quality of life for members of the surrounding community.  This is also a time to celebrate the legacy Roberto Clemente and his contributions to baseball and society. As we honor the history of the park and his legacy, we must also ensure we continue to work together to maintain the park for many generations to come,” concluded Serrano.
