Elmsford, NY - Democratic Conference Leader, Senator Andrea Stewart-Cousins, announced today completion of the $21.7 million NY Works Project to replace the north and southbound bridges carrying the Sprain Brook Parkway over Route 119 in the village of Elmsford.

“Motorists in my district can now enjoy a smoother, safer ride over the Sprain Brook Parkway in Elmsford,” said Senator Stewart-Cousins. “The completion of this NY Works project is part of our commitment to invest in infrastructure for the future of our state. Another plus is that in order to do so, some 500 people were employed, providing a boost to the local economy.”

The New York State Department of Transportation reports the new bridges are single span, multi-girder, and include new foundations, reinforced steel supports and concrete decks. A section of Route 119 beneath the new bridges was also repaved. The area was also made more pedestrian-friendly, with new sidewalks and curbing, benches and trash receptacles. New plantings were also a part of the enhancement to the area.

The NY Works program focuses on upgrading state roads and bridges that have been rated fair, by making improvements in order to extend their service life. The program has completed 2,100 miles of pavement and 120 bridges so far.
