Senator Carlucci to Kick Off Poverty Hearings in Rockland

Senator David Carlucci (D – Rockland/Westchester), as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Social Services will host a series of hearings throughout New York State on poverty. The first hearing will be held on Thursday, July 30, 2015, at the Pearl River Library, located at 80 Franklin Avenue, in Pearl River, NY, at 1 p.m.

The hearings will examine the current system of supportive services for individuals who are receiving social services in New York State and New York City. Senator Carlucci will be conducting a broad survey of the current system, looking at issues related to homelessness, work training and education, services for children, adults, families and seniors, current levels of funding of both the nonprofit providers and government entities and modernizing the current welfare system.

The goal of these hearings is to identify where gaps in the current system exist, so the Committee on Social Services can better address these issues in the upcoming legislative session.

The following individuals will be testifying at the hearing:

  • Susan Sherwood, Rockland County Department of Social Services
  • Steve Piasecki, Supportive Housing Network
  • Ken Stephens, Legal Aid Society of New York State
