Amherst, NY– State Senator Michael H. Ranzenhofer joined Amherst Town Officials to announce the Grand Opening of the Amherst Justice Court Security Building.  The new building was constructed to improve security and provide adequate space for the increased volume of prisoners processed at the facility.

This project was funded through the Town of Amherst Capital Improvement Program (CIP) and through a $250,000 State Grant secured by State Senator Michael H. Ranzenhofer.

"The completion of the Amherst Court expansion project marks an important milestone in the building's 30-year history. It has been an honor to work with officials to secure funding for the project to help offset the burden for property taxpayers. Now, the improved facility is fully compliant with state laws, while providing a safer environment for Amherst residents," said State Senator Michael H. Ranzenhofer.

The expansion project included demolishing and relocating concrete areas, duct ways, as well as removing existing windows, then constructing a new 2,058 square foot expansion with related systems and constructing associated driveway and drainage facilities.

The Amherst Justice Court facility was first built in 1985. This new expansion was needed to provide adequate space for prisoners and to ensure compliance with existing laws regarding the housing of prisoners in New York State.  This new building will improve the security of the facility and allow for continuous monitoring of the prisoners who are being held therein.
