Senator Bill Larkin (R,C – Cornwall-On-Hudson) and Assemblyman James Skoufis (D – Woodbury) paid tribute to a group of cadets both men and women from the United States Military Academy at West Point during the 63rd annual West Point Day on Wednesday May 6th, held in the New York State Capitol in Albany.

A reception took place at Senator Larkin’s Albany Office in the Capitol Building.  A group of cadets, Lieutenant General Robert L. Caslen, Superintendant and other officers from West Point were honored in the Senate and Assembly chambers.

“It is a privilege to introduce future leaders of our great country,” said Senator Larkin during his remarks on the Senate floor. “This is to say thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Thank you for raising your hand and saying I want to serve my country and my fellow citizens.  You are an inspiration.”

Senator Larkin retired from the United States Army after 23 years of service at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.

“The United States Military Academy at West Point is an unrivaled institution of tremendous educational, historical, and military significance,” said Assemblyman Skoufis. “The cadets of West Point are our future leaders. I want to thank them for their commitment, and their desire to serve our nation.”

Senator Larkin and Assemblyman Skoufis sponsored a legislative resolution in their respective chambers honoring the United States Military Academy at West Point.  They also acknowledged two cadets from districts they represent; Cadet Joseph Laible of the Town of Stony Point and Cadet Jett Dipalma of the Town of Highlands.

An estimated 1,200 new cadets enter the Academy each year. Currently, there are over 4,000 cadets enrolled at West Point from every state in the U.S., as well as from several foreign countries. After graduation, cadets are deployed throughout the world and serve on active duty for at least five years.
