Senator Young Announces Funding For Local Paving Projects

ALBANY - Senator Catharine Young (R,C,I- 57th District) announced today that needed repairs on three local roadways will be accelerated to improve conditions for area motorists.

The projects will benefit travelers on New York Routes 394 in Stow, 417 from the Cattaraugus County line to Ceres, and 241 from Randolph to Conewango. All three projects were not scheduled to be addressed until a future date; however, funding for the projects was secured by Senator Young as part of last year’s state budget.

“Having safe roads that are devoid of potholes and other issues is an important part of our efforts to create jobs and grow our local economy. Without a strong network of well-maintained roads, highways, and bridges we cannot attract new employers or help existing businesses get their goods to market at an affordable rate. We also need to address serious safety issues presented by poorly maintained roads,” said Senator Young.

“When roads are in poor condition and they keep deteriorating, it is costly for drivers whose cars may be damaged and the taxpayers who are saddled with an increased cost when the repairs are finally made. By accelerating these repaving projects, we are helping area motorists get to work and around the community, and our school children get to school in a safe manner,” Senator Young said.

Under the funding secured by Senator Young, approximately seven miles of New York Route 241, between Randolph and Conewango will be resurfaced. New York State Route 417 from the Cattaraugus County line to Ceres will be repaved and New York State Route 394 in Stow will have new asphalt overlaid. The total funding for all three projects is about $3.4 million.
