GROTON, 09/09/16 – State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I-Oneonta) today joined officials from the Village of Groton to announce a $140,000 state grant to help fund several improvements at Memorial Park..

“Memorial Park is a true gem in the Village of Groton and the facilities help enhance the local quality of life for residents and visitors alike,” said Senator Seward.  “After touring the park a few years ago and speaking with local officials, it was clear to me that some touch-ups would only further enhance this terrific facility.  I am extremely pleased to partner with the Village of Groton to improve this recreation focal point without placing a major burden on the village budget.”

Village of Groton Mayor Christopher Neville said, “The people of Groton are incredibly grateful to Senator Seward for his support of the improvements at Memorial Park.  The park is an important community asset and thanks to Senator Seward we are able to make these upgrades without sacrificing other needs.”

Village of Groton Park Commissioner Elizabeth Conger said, “Memorial Park has a lot to offer and our recreation opportunities will continue to grow.  The new playground in particular has been a long time coming and will be a great improvement to the park.  This will be a community build event and we hope to see everyone helping in some way.  Thank you, Senator Seward, for all that you did to make this possible!”

The capital grant secured by Senator Seward through the State and Municipal Facilities Program is being used to help fund the replacement of playground equipment along with improvements at the pool, bathrooms, and guard shack.

“Groton Memorial Park is a source of pride for residents and home to a number of exceptional recreation programs.  The improvements being made will further enhance this outdoor showcase and ensure that generations to come will continue to enjoy Groton’s natural beauty,” Seward concluded.
