September 11, 2016

BROOKLYN, NY (9/11/16) – On Saturday, September 10, Senator Kevin Parker served as the Grand Marshal for the United Negro College Fund’s (UNCF) inaugural 5K Walk/Run. This fundraising event was created to raise funds for UNCF students in the form of scholarships and educational services. Celebrity supporters such as Rotimi from the STARZ network hit series Power, Lisa Evers from Hot 97’s Street Soldiers, and Doctor Bob Lee of WBLS (107.5) all came together for this great cause. With the support of his office staff, friends and family, Senator Parker’s race team was able to raise roughly  $3,000 for the UNCF college fund.

“I am humbled to serve as the Grand Marshall for the United Negro College Fund’s 2016 New York 5K Walk/Run for Education.  I applaud UNCF for their vision to create an event that promotes both health and wellness and most importantly, supports our children’s ability to succeed and realize their dreams.”

“Education is major priority on my agenda in the State Senate as I work to expand access and eliminate financial barriers to higher education for deserving students across New York State. Team Parker is proud to support UNCF in ensuring that more students from communities of color not only have the opportunity to go to college, but that they can also afford the investment in their future.” – State Senator Kevin Parker
