New York, NY—Senator Toby Ann Stavisky (D-Flushing) attended the annual CUNY / Daily New Citizenship NOW! Call-in today. The senator, a proponent of increased accessibility to citizenship, answered phone calls from New Yorkers seeking immigration assistance.
“I am a New Yorker by birth, but these callers are New Yorkers by choice,” Senator Stavisky, who hosts Citizenship NOW! events every year at the Flushing YMCA with Councilman Peter Koo, said. “I am so happy the Daily News and CUNY have continued offering assistance to new immigrants as they navigate through the complex path to citizenship. Now, we must push forward and get the DREAM Act passed, so that all immigrants have access to financial aid to public colleges and universities.”
Over the years, the CUNY/Daily News Citizenship NOW! Call-in, have answered more than 142,000 immigrant calls, thanks to the assistance provided by volunteer attorneys, community leaders, CUNY students faculty and staff. Under the leadership of Baruch College Professor and Daily News columnist Allan Wernick, the program has become the most extensive university-based immigration law service program in the country.
