Free NY College Tuition Proposal Requires Accountability Measures

New City, NY– Earlier this week, Governor Cuomo announced a plan to provide free college tuition to New Yorkers making up to $125,000 per year at all SUNY and CUNY institutions.  Senator David Carlucci (D-Rockland/Westchester) reacted by calling for accountability measures to be included in the Governor’s plan.

“As a graduate of SUNY, we must do everything we can to knock down barriers to higher education.  At the same time we must ensure accountability measures that will uphold the quality education we have come to expect from SUNY and CUNY,” Carlucci explained.

Carlucci will push for students utilizing this program to maintain a minimum GPA and commit to community service or employment in New York after graduation.

“SUNY and CUNY schools provide a first rate education. We must do everything in our power to prevent the “brain drain” of our graduates leaving New York while maintaining and improving educational standards” Carlucci concluded.
