Majority Leader John J. Flanagan Inducts Senator Bill Larkin Into the Senate Veterans' Hall of Fame

Today Senate Majority Leader John J. Flanagan had the honor of inducting Senator Bill Larkin (R-C, Cornwall-on-Hudson) into the Senate Veterans’ Hall of Fame. The Veterans’ Hall of Fame (click here for link) honors the courage and sacrifices of New York’s most outstanding veterans.  

Senator Flanagan said, “It is a true honor to induct Senator Larkin into the Veterans’ Hall of Fame. Senator Larkin’s illustrious military career, dedication to public service, and constant advocacy for other veterans make him an exemplary choice for recognition. I congratulate him and all of the other inductees on this honor. I, and all New Yorkers are truly grateful for the service men and women inducted into the Veterans’ Hall of Fame this year.” 

“Being nominated by my good friend Senator John Flanagan and being inducted into the Senate Veterans’ Hall of Fame means a great deal to me,” said Senator Bill Larkin. “Being able to see my name next to patriots like Major Scotty Smiley and others with such distinguished records of service is humbling. My service to my country has shaped my entire life. I will never forget what my service in combat taught me and I hold that close to me every day as I continue to serve my community and our great State.”

Senator Larkin retired from the United States Army in 1967 after 23 years of service. He served in key positions in the United States and overseas, and saw combat during World War II and the Korean War. As former Chairman of the Senate Veterans Committee, he sponsored some of the most sweeping veterans benefits laws in 30 years. Senator Larkin also led the establishment of the Purple Heart Hall of Honor in New Windsor, Orange County. The Hall collects and preserves the stories of Purple Heart recipients from all branches of service and includes educational exhibits related to military history, and the Purple Heart.

The New York State Senate Veterans' Hall of Fame was created to honor and recognize outstanding veterans from the Empire State who have distinguished themselves both in military and civilian life. Their meritorious service to the nation deserves the special recognition that only a Hall of Fame can provide, as a fitting expression of gratitude and admiration.
