STATEMENT FROM NYS SENATOR TOM CROCI ON PAROLE BOARD DECISION TO RELEASE CONVICTED COP KILLER HERMAN BELL

Thomas D. Croci

March 15, 2018

“NYPD Officers Joseph Piagentini and Waverly Jones were gunned down after being ambushed while on foot patrol in Harlem in 1971.  Herman Bell, a callous and depraved cop killer, lured the officers into a Harlem Housing Project for the sole purpose of killing them in cold blood.  No feeling for human life.  No thought for their families.  Just a depraved, heartless killer.
An unconscionable decision by two parole board members has resulted in this cop killer being granted parole in New York.   I am calling on Governor Cuomo to immediately call for their resignation or begin the legal process of removing them.  The men and women of law enforcement who protect us every day in this state and the families of our fallen officers also deserve justice”.
