NYS Senator Monica R. Martinez Organizes Holiday Care Packages for Heroes

Hauppauge, New York – NYS Senator Monica R. Martinez organized Holiday Care Packages for Heroes to bring joy this holiday season for troops and military dogs who are deployed. With the assistance of Nancy Fuentes, Gold Star Mom, Carol Ruane, President LI Blue Star Mothers NY6, Steve Castleton, Civilian Aide to the Secretary of the Army and veterans organizations, the team packed over 30 boxes to be shipped to military bases around the world.

“Today and every day, we thank our military for their service; our country’s greatness has been built on the foundation of their courage and sacrifice,” said NYS Senator Monica R. Martinez. “We couldn’t have done it without the generosity of our amazing community who donated items for our troops and their K9s. We had beautiful and heartfelt letters written by our students which will be sent to our troops for some holiday cheer.”

With the support of the Suffolk County Police Department, communities of the Third Senatorial District and local school districts, the troops and military dogs will receive care packages filled with needed supplies, snacks, dog toys and beautiful handwritten letters.

“It is so important for us to show them we care, we support them and that they are not forgotten,” said Nancy Fuentes, Gold Star Mom of Spc. Daniel A. Fuentes, KIA 4/6/07, Iraq. “I met some incredible people from this event! What NYS Senator Martinez organized and seeing everyone come together is inspiring!”
