SENATOR LIU CELEBRATES 2022 WOMEN OF DISTINCTION HONOREE, JENNIFER SHANNON
Long-time public school teacher, civic president, and “COVID Hero” recognized

College Point, NY – State Senator John Liu yesterday celebrated his 2022 Women of Distinction honoree, Jennifer Shannon. Shannon is a long-time public school teacher, President of A Better College Point Civic Association, Chairperson of the College Point Memorial Day Parade Committee, a small business owner, and a volunteer for All About Rabbit Rescue. During the Covid-19 pandemic, she organized a team of volunteers to support College Point’s food pantries and provided “thank you” meals for first responders. For her hard work and dedication, she was recognized by Brooklyn Borough President, now Mayor Eric Adams, for being a “Covid Hero.”

Senator John Liu stated, “Jennifer Shannon is an activist of the highest caliber who always keeps a finger on the pulse of her local community. Throughout her career as a public school teacher, and especially these last few years during the Covid-19 pandemic, she has demonstrated remarkable integrity and character that exemplifies what it means to be a good neighbor and public servant. For her tremendous contributions to our community, to those in need, and to the entire City of New York, we offer our deepest gratitude, and we proudly name her our 2022 Woman of Distinction.”

Jennifer Shannon stated, “I am honored to be chosen by Senator John Liu for the 2022 Woman of Distinction award. In my current positions as President of a Better College Point Civic Association and Chairperson for the College Point Memorial Day parade committee, I am supported and strengthened by many other dedicated volunteers. Their endless support makes my efforts easier and less challenging. Thank you Senator Liu for this honor and your support over the years.”
