Opening Night: Anna Karenina

 

This is the U.S. premiere of Sergei Solovyov’s Anna Karenina , the film adaptation of Leo Tolstoy’s novel. It’s a tragic story of love and betrayal, the fate of a woman who, in the heat of passion decides to completely change her life. Anna Karenina, unable to stop her feelings for Vronsky, repudiates the morals of high society in an attempt to save her right to love. Anna’s husband takes away her son, and everyone turns their back on her. This new and unique adaptation of Anna Karenina took the director over 14 years to film, and includes one of the final performances of actors Oleg Yankovskiy and Aleksandr Abdulov.
