Health Empowerment Celebration

The Health Empowerment Celebration aims to increase awareness of the immigrant health resources available in our community and promote preventative health and personal wellness. This year, in particular, we are integrating a focus on immigrant rights and empowerment in response to immigration enforcement policies facing our communities.

By doing so, we hope to build community cohesion in a time of increased tension and enhance community members’ exposure to and trust in public service agencies. The event will include activities such as health screenings, flu shots, nutrition consultations, food samples and smoothies. Local immigration advocacy and service groups will also provide resources such as self-defense and dance workshops, Know Your Rights street performances, information on affordable housing and home health care, IDNYC registration, community arts mural, and immigration legal assistance. All participants will receive a free copy of the Academy of Medical and Public Health Services' 2018 Immigrant Resource Directory.

Special thanks to the Academy of Medical and Public Health Services, and thanks to all the partners making the event possible including Assembly Assistant Speaker Felix W. Ortiz, Council Member Carlos Menchaca, NYC Parks, and Mayor’s Office to Prevent Gun Violence, Mayor's Office of Immigrant Affairs, , Chinese-American Planning Council, Affinity Health Plan, EmblemHealth, First American International Bank, Dr. John Hon, MetroPlus, United Healthcare, Western Union, and Xincon
