Recitation & Essay Contest - America's 250th Birthday

State Senator John Liu invites students to participate in two special contests celebrating America’s 250th anniversary and the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Students can participate in one or both contests.

The first is an essay contest that asks students to reflect on our Nation's past, present and future. Winning entries will be placed in a time capsule to be opened in 50 years.

The second is a recitation contest, where students will submit a video of themselves reciting the last paragraph of the Declaration of Independence. Thirteen students will be selected to recite a part of the Declaration of Independence at a special American 250 Community Celebration on Sunday, June 28th. The community event will feature food, performances, activities, historical reenactments, and a special acknowledgement of our participating students.

More details about both contests are on the attached flyers. Entries must be submitted via Google Form  by May 22 for the recitation, and June 12 for the essay.
