Forum on Tenants' Rights and Advocacy in a Critical Year

On Thursday, September 18th, I will be hosting a Forum on Tenants Rights and Advocacy, which will focus on organizing, education and empowerment, in preparation for 2015, which will be toward a critical year for state and city housing policy.

The forum will include begin with information on the fight to strengthen New York’s rent laws, which must be renewed by June of 2015. After this discussion, there will be breakout sessions on more specific housing topics, including:

  • Housing Issues for Seniors;
  • Building a Tenants’ Association and Improving Building Conditions;
  • Make Sure You’re Doing Everything Right: Keeping your Apartment Regulated; and
  • Everything You Need to Know About Housing Court and Evictions

Participating organizations include the Met Council on Housing, Tenants and Neighbors, Lenox Hill Neighborhood House, VOLS, the Legal Aid Society of NYC, and Housing Court Answers. The forum will take place on Thursday, September 18th from 6:30-8:30 PM at Lighthouse Guild, 111 East 59th Street, between Lexington and Park Avenues. No RSVP is necessary.
