Queens Elected Officials To Urge Governor Paterson To Sign Into Law Renegotiated “Hospital Closure Planning Act”
Present version updated to address Governor’s concerns after veto last year
What: Queens elected officials will urge Governor Paterson to sign into law the “Hospital Closure Planning Act,” (S.7483A/A.10748A) sponsored by Senator Shirley L. Huntley (D-Jamaica) and Assemblyman Rory Lancman (D-Queens), which would require the Department of Health to hold a public forum concerning the impact of a hospital’s closure on access to healthcare for members of the surrounding community. The Governor vetoed similar legislation last year, and the new bill was drafted with the department of health and the executive chamber to address the Governor’s concerns.
