BILL NUMBER:A4363A TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the tax law, in relation to providing a tax credit for the cost of purchasing technology to remotely monitor persons with Alzheimer's disease and/or dementia PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL: In order to better care for those who are afflicted with a cognitive illness, this bill would provide a tax credit for family members or home health care providers to purchase technology that would enable them to locate missing persons that suffer from developmental or dementia-type disorders. This tax incentive is only applicable when the patient resides at home and will be provided in the form of tax credit equal to the cost of the remote location equip- ment (up to $1000). SUMMARY OF SPECIFIC PROVISIONS: Section 1 amends sections 606 of the tax law. This amendment provides tax credit to the purchasers of tech- nology which monitors Alzheimer's disease and/or dementia in order to deliver proper care to a patient. JUSTIFICATION: Alzheimer's disease is a cognitive disorder that affects the patient's mind causing memory loss and confusion which may cause wandering. Seniors who are diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease often do not have any major physical ailments. However, their cognitive abilities are diminished making them unable to appropriately care for or monitor themselves.
