AN ACT to amend the education law, in relation to  instruction  relating
  to the dangers associated with the use of alcohol

  THE  PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM-
BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

  Section 1. The education law is amended by adding a new section  804-e
to read as follows:
  S 804-E. DANGERS ASSOCIATED WITH THE USE OF ALCOHOL. 1. IN ADDITION TO
INSTRUCTION  OTHERWISE  REQUIRED  BY  SECTION EIGHT HUNDRED FOUR OF THIS
ARTICLE, THE COMMISSIONER IS HEREBY AUTHORIZED TO PROMULGATE  RULES  AND
REGULATIONS DIRECTING ALL SCHOOLS TO INCLUDE, AS AN INTEGRAL PART OF THE
SCHOOL CURRICULUM, PROGRAMS DESIGNED TO EDUCATE STUDENTS ABOUT THE IMME-
DIATE AND CONSEQUENTIAL DANGERS ASSOCIATED WITH THE USE OF ALCOHOL. SUCH
PROGRAMS  SHALL  INCLUDE, BUT NOT BE LIMITED TO, THE DANGERS OF DRINKING
AND DRIVING AS WELL AS SUCH OTHER ISSUES CLOSELY RELATED TO THE  USE  OF
ALCOHOL.
  2. THE PROGRAMS AUTHORIZED BY SUBDIVISION ONE OF THIS SECTION SHALL BE
DESIGNED  BY THE DEPARTMENT IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE OFFICE OF ALCOHOLISM
AND SUBSTANCE ABUSE SERVICES.
  S 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2009.
