BILL NUMBER:A8828 TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the public health law, in relation to establishing a state autism advisory board PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL: The purpose of this bill is to estab- lish a state autism advisory board with the goal of providing better treatments and services to person on the autism spectrum SUMMARY OF SPECIFIC PROVISIONS: Section one creates the state autism advisory board. Section two is the effective date. JUSTIFICATION: Current figures estimate that one in 150 children is on the autism spectrum. Throughout the state, there is a lack of consisten- cy in autism services and the criteria used to determine service eligi- bility. Parents frequently move (at great personal expense), to school districts and counties with better services for their children, causing overload for these areas. This advisory board will make recommendation to make the provision of services more consistent from region to region in New York State. PRIOR LEGISLATIVE HISTORY: New bill. FISCAL IMPLICATIONS: To be determined.
