BILL NUMBER: S1910
TITLE OF BILL :
An act to amend the correction law, in relation to the duty to
register and to verify by a sex offender
PURPOSE :
Relates to a sex offender's duty to register and verify his or her
address under the sex offender registration act.
SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS :
Adds a new paragraph (b-2) to subdivision 2 of section 168-f of the
Correction law to require that such verification form signed by the
sex offender also require the offender state the name of any public
school for children in elementary grades through the twelfth grade
that is located within a one-half mile radius of the offender's place
of residence.
JUSTIFICATION :
Makes sex offenders report the name of any school near their residence
so that the school and the parents of its students may keep better

AN ACT to amend the correction law, in relation to the duty to register
and to verify by a sex offender
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM-
BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. Paragraph (c) of subdivision 2 of section 168-f of the
correction law, as amended by chapter 453 of the laws of 1999, is
amended to read as follows:
(c) If the sex offender fails to mail the signed verification form to
the division within ten calendar days after receipt of the form, he or
she shall be in violation of this section [unless he proves that he or
she has not changed his or her residence address].
S 2. Subdivision 2 of section 168-f of the correction law is amended
by adding a new paragraph (b-4) to read as follows:
(B-4) SUCH VERIFICATION FORM SIGNED BY THE SEX OFFENDER SHALL ALSO
REQUIRE SUCH OFFENDER TO STATE THE NAME OF ANY PUBLIC SCHOOL FOR CHIL-
DREN IN ELEMENTARY GRADES THROUGH THE TWELFTH GRADE WHICH IS LOCATED
WITHIN A ONE-HALF MILE RADIUS OF SUCH OFFENDER'S PLACE OF RESIDENCE.
S 3. This act shall take effect on the first of January next succeed-
ing the date on which it shall have become a law.

The purpose of this bill is to mandate that all sex offender
verification forms must disclose the name of any public or private
primary or secondary school that is within one-half mile of such sex
offender's residence.
SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS :
Section 1: Amends Correction Law section 168-f (2) ((b) to require
that such periodically submitted verification form signed by the sex
offender also require the offender to state the name of any public or
private school for children in elementary grades through the twelfth
grade that is located within a one-half mile radius of the offender's
place of residence.

AN ACT to amend the correction law, in relation to the duty to register

THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM-
BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. Paragraph (b) of subdivision 2 of section 168-f of the
correction law, as added by chapter 192 of the laws of 1995, is amended
to read as follows:
(b) The verification form shall be signed by the sex offender, and
state that he OR SHE still resides at the address last reported to the
division. SUCH VERIFICATION FORM SHALL REQUIRE SUCH SEX OFFENDER TO
STATE THE NAME OF ANY SCHOOL FOR CHILDREN, REGARDLESS OF WHETHER PUBLIC
OR PRIVATE, IN GRADES PRE-KINDERGARTEN THROUGH TWELFTH WHICH IS LOCATED
WITHIN A ONE-HALF MILE RADIUS OF SUCH OFFENDER'S PLACE OF RESIDENCE.
S 2. This act shall take effect on the one hundred eightieth day after
it shall have become a law.
